Dave was loving, faith-filled, determined, strong, child-like, wise, passionate, honest, loyal, fun, adventurous, and above all BRAVE.

From infancy, Dave faced challenges that would have shut down most people's spirits…but he was an overcomer. His deep faith, unshakable hope, and tight bonds with family and friends kept him rooted in optimism every day of his life.

Dave was a resident of the Arc of Cape May County for most of his adult life, where he formed relationships that would become like family. For 28 years Dave was a valued employee of the Arc's Cape Crew Labor. He would tell us "I worked like a dog there!" His work ethic and physical strength wowed everyone. Before retirement due to increasing health concerns, Dave was a beloved member of the Arc Thrift Store staff.

Dave's love of music and performing led him joyous hours spent with the Animal House Band, especially when they played at the Cape May Ferry and Terminal. The ferry was Dave's second home, and he spent countless hours crossing between Cape May, NJ and Lewes, DE. The crew were also extended family. Dave proudly wore his captain's hat—when he wasn't in his DJ Dave cap, another area of his life where he was a shining star! Dave helped DJ at Arc events and family parties, some of his proudest moments.
Another proud accomplishment that was a sort of passage into adulthood for Dave was when he fearlessly climbed Mt. Washington with brother Tom. It took all Dave's courage and resilience to see the climb through, very reflective of how he faced every challenge.

Dave also shared his musical gifts and inspiring faith at church, where he loved singing "Change My Heart, Oh God". Pastor Milt mentioned that following Dave's many prayer reports, and all others', Dave would add "And a big AMEN!"

In addition to being a man of God, Dave was a man of the sea! He found his peace and renewal at the ocean and on the Delaware Bay. From the family's decades at beloved homestead Seacroft in Avalon, to recent weekly visits to The Points (jetty) and other favorite Avalon spots, Dave was always in communion with the sea.

Family was central in Dave's heart. He called each family member near and far regularly to stay in close touch. Nothing thrilled him more than family gatherings, holidays and trips! His wish upon receiving the news that his cancer was terminal was to orchestrate a huge family reunion at the Grand Hotel in Cape May, one of his most cherished places on earth. Family came from near and far for a living Life Celebration!
Dave's other wish was for one more trip to Georgia to be with family there and have some fun together. It was a wonderful time!

His final wish is being realized in Heaven—more time in Hawaii with loved ones. Dave adored traveling and between the Arc and family and friends, he went places!

Our hearts overflow with gratitude for the loving team of caregivers Dave was blessed with at the Arc of Cape May, Patient Care Hospice, and Meadowview Nursing and Rehab Center.
Celebration of Dave's life took place with him still among us, but we will celebrate, miss him, and love him always, together and individually.

Dave, you will not be remembered for the terrible darkness you endured your entire life. Rather, you'll be remembered for the light within you—the light you shared freely, joyfully, and in the end, simply refused to surrender.
