Obituary

Frances Yanus Frances Yanus had three things that she valued above all: her family, faith, and education. These are reflected by the many accolades she received in her life. But to truly appreciate Frances' life you need to understand and embrace the song High Hopes'. Frances was someone who would strive against all odds to accomplish a goal, she passed away September 17, 2011 The simple biography is that Frances was born in Philadelphia on June 11, 1921 to Bent and Myrtle Hyberg. She graduated from West Chester University (1942) with a BA, Glassboro State College with a MA, and completed her doctoral coursework at the University of Pennsylvania. She adored and married Jacob Albert Yanus. Jake passed away October 1990. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bengt. She is survived by her step-daughter Mary Martin, cousin Harry Budd, her niece Gail Caros, and her nephews Skip, Lars, and Kurt Hyberg. But the simple biography is not the full story. It is important to know that after graduating Frances spent time as a postulant at a convent. That after faithful reflection she discerned her calling was elsewhere and joined the United Methodist Church. And that as member Frances actively lived her faith, helping the Food Bank of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Aura Homeless Shelter, Women of the United Methodist Church, and Volunteers of America (VOA). In addition she was active in numerous ecumenical activities. Frances dedication to education is reflected by 46 years teaching reading in Paulsboro's schools, her efforts to reach those students and adults requiring remedial instruction and as a trustee of the West Depford Library. It is the library that demonstrates the essence of Frances Yanus. It was her vision and effort that led to the library. She believed every community should have a library, so when she moved to West Depford and there wasn't a library she started one, in a shack with donated books. As for the current library, she did not design it, finance it, or build it, but she did know who could and she worked endlessly to share her vision and inspire others to join in. You can now a tribute to Frances' vision for sharing her love for reading and the worlds it opens at 420 Crown Point Road, West Deptford. Oops there goes another rubber tree plant! Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing on Thursday eve 7-9PM at the Adams-Stiefel Funeral Home 203 West Broad Street, Paulsboro, NJ. Rev.
