Obituary

Jean Rita Finkbeiner

May 22, 1928 - May 27, 2023

Jean Pohlig Finkbeiner of Gibbstown passed peacefully in her home surrounded by family on May 27, 2023.

Mom's beloved hobbies were planting vegetables and flowers in her gardens; heading out to yard sales on Saturday;

taking pictures of her family, grand and great grandchildren, and all events that she attended.

We lovingly nicknamed her "the paparazzi "! She quilted and crochet, was an avid reader, enjoyed all types of music especially Frank Sinatra!

Mom was known for her Jewish apple cake and strawberry jam! She even taught her granddaughters how to can and make jam!

Mom was obsessed with clipping, collecting and saving all recipes she wanted to try. She collected many recipe books and magazines. She was a Taste of Home magazine editor!

She was a lifelong poet and self-published a book of her own poetry. She wrote journals of her life .

She had a terrific sense of humor! She loved the television show Everybudy loves Raymond and would watch that every night with Nancy. Along with Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, if she could guess one or two answers, she called it a good night!

She loved the color yellow, cheerful and bright, full of light just like her!

She loved having a pet in the house and at times had more than one! She took in too many to mention stray animals especially cats with varied personalities!

She was patient and kind to all who knew her and very generous to many charities.

Mom's loves were her family, being in her yard or front porch, conversations with friends and neighbors that stopped by, sitting for hours on back porch watching the birds, listening to all different types of music!

Mom was a crab cake connoisseur! Had a sweet tooth that loved candy, cakes, and cookies!

Nancy's Memories

Mom was a devout Catholic. We attended mass every Sunday. Crucifix's were hung throughout the house. Statue of Mother Mary was displayed in her bedroom. She had several Rosary Beads from which she prayed the rosary.

Mom had a nickname given to her by her granddaughter Carrie. She belovedly called her "Jeany Beany". Mom would just laugh.

Mom would always help me with the "Haunted House" on Halloween. She would even let me dress her up in a "Scream" or "Witches" costume. She loved handing out the candy especially special bags to her grandchildren.

Theresa's memories

Mom taught me:

*How to "mother" and that just because I am a woman, It didn't mean I had to have children. Mothering myself, my students, friends and family and to open my heart as a nurturing woman.

* How to keep my mouth shut and to give my concerns to God.

* How to garden, cook and bake. These activities brought me close to her.

* Patience- though it is a daily practice for me.

*Money isn't everything, Health is more important.

* I learned to enjoy and read, going to library and getting into a good mystery book.

* I learned to love all types of music and to appreciate the Big Bands from 40's, Frank Sinatra and Glenn Miller.

* We travelled together to New Hampshire, New Mexico, Colorado and 4x to Jamaica.

Her last swim was in the blue warm water of the Caribbean. She was thrilled to be out of Gibbstown for a care free vacation. She loved sailing and never got seasick.

* She was the best mom and I feel so blessed that we had her here to spoil her .
