Salvatore Michael Tranchina
April 1, 1935 - July 5, 2024
Salvatore Michael Tranchina 1935-2024, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, passed away peacefully at home surround by his family in Newfield, NJ on July 5, 2024. He was 89 years old and ready to meet Jesus after a long, full life.
Sal was born on April 1, 1935, in Brooklyn NY to Dominic and Rose Gambino Tranchina. He was the oldest of four, having a sister Jean, and twin brothers Joseph and Donald. They lived together in the same row home with his grandparents, aunts, uncle and cousin.
Sal loved working with his hands and attended vocational school to study woodworking and graduated in 1953.
Sal grew up playing "stickball" in the streets of Brooklyn and played baseball in high school and remarkably flew down to Florida to try out for the New York Yankees before he joined the Army in 1955.
It was while Sal was stationed at the Nike base in Mantua, NJ that he met the love of his life, Corinne Somers. Sal and Corinne were married on July 15, 1961, at St. Bridget's Church in Glassboro, NJ.
A city boy who had never experienced the "country", Sal fell in love with the beautiful countryside of South Jersey and decided to start his life with Corinne in Glassboro. They lived with Corinne's parents while Sal built their first home just around the corner on Villanova Road.
Sal started his successful career with Dupont at Chambers Works as an operator at the refinery. He quickly became the go-to guy for solving problems at the plant. In 1990 Sal was awarded Dupont's prestigious Environmental Respect Award for his work in developing refrigerant recovery processes and equipment for Dupont's large corporate manufacturers like General Motors, Toyota and General Electric.
After retiring from Dupont, Sal and his son's started Fluoro Tech, a manufacturer of specialized refrigerant recovery equipment and quickly became the industry leader with Dupont being their largest customer.
Sal's life was very full of family, friends and projects. After building their home, he built a large workshop in the backyard, then a treehouse for his three sons. This was the beginning of 62 years of projects. There was no project or repair job too difficult for Sal. Boats, Homes, Renovations, Kitchens, you name it, Sal could fix it or build it.
Sal's creative ability with his hands was only eclipsed by his wonderful personality. Everyone loved Sal; he was everyone's friend and loved helping people with their problems and projects. He was the most positive, enthusiastic person one could know. His enthusiasm, combined with his love for solving problems and creating and repairing things, enriched the lives of everyone who met him.
Sal came to faith in Christ when he heard the Gospel at the wedding of his oldest son, Michael. He and Corinne loved hosting Bible studies in their home. He attended Calvary Hill Church in Glassboro, St John's in Washington Township, New Life Fellowship in Glassboro, and most recently Liberti Church in Glassboro. Salvatore loved Jesus and loved being in fellowship with his fellow believers.
Sal was patient and kind; he did not envy or boast; he was not arrogant or rude. He did not insist on his own way; he was not irritable or resentful; he never rejoiced at wrongdoing but rejoiced with the truth. Sal beared all things, believed all things, hoped all things, endured all things.
Love is a word of action, and Sal's entire life can be summed up in that one word. His untiring devotion and acts of service for his wife Corinne, his three sons, his extended family, and his many friends blessed all of our lives beyond measure and served as a matchless role model for his entire family.
Salvatore and Corinne had three boys, Michael Sean (Veronica), Christopher Jon (Lisa), and Daniel Robert, ten Grandchildren, Michael Jr (Christina), Jaclyn (Greg), Erin (Alan), Karley (Prachetas), Kristine (John), Kendyl, Salvatore, Daniel Jr. (Gianna), Jessica, and Madison and ten Great-Grandchildren, Riley, Zachary, Michael III, Caleb, Raina, Raelynn, Kade, Mya, Daniel, and Royce.
Sal is survived by his sister, Jean Holm, and his brother, Donald Tranchina. He is predeceased by his parents, Dominic and Rose Tranchina, his brother, Joseph Tranchina, and his wife, Corinne.
