Sylvia Jean Rawson
December 7, 1942 - August 22, 2023
Sylvia Jean Rawson was born in Woodbury NJ, on Dec 7, 1942, to Harold E Shea & Margaret S. McIlvaine. Sylvia attended & graduated from Woodbury High School. She worked for Sears for many years & until finally getting married to Charles Webb Rawson on November 15, 1975 in Haddonfield NJ, & had one son Brian Keith Rawson on December 26, 1977.
Sylvia's main love was for the Lord & being active at her church, Colonial Manor United Methodist.Church. Whether it was singing in the choir, teaching vacation bible school classes in the summer, or helping with fundraisers & food drives, the Church & her faith was always her first passion. She would sit up in the front row every Sunday, & at least 5 times a service you would hear a loud, joyful "Amen, praise the Lord!" after each passage of scripture read or hymn sung.
When she wasn't helping out at the church, she was helping other people, the elderly, sick & shut-ins. Whether it was just providing company & a listening ear, bringing over a warm home cooked meal, or doing some light housework, she did what she loved...helping others.
Sylvia loved listening to gospel music, like the Everly Brothers & country music like Charlie Pride. She also loved taking day trips with other religious groups she would go to, like Keen-Agers & Faithful Followers. She especially enjoyed going to Atlantic City, going on the boardwalk & getting Fralinger's salt water taffy & having a good dinner at the Irish Pub.
Sylvia had a huge love of horses & her favorites were the Clydesdales. She also was very fond of dogs & would watch the National Dog Show every year & knew almost every breed by name. She had a Scottish Terrier growing up named Pebbles, & later on had a french poodle named. Maurice. Sylvia always had a soft spot for animals, whether it was her Siamese cat she had growing up, her Persian cat named Creamy, or the family cat, Love. She also loved birds, & had parakeets, canaries & even a clock that would play different bird songs every hour. Sylvia also loved working in her garden.
Sylvia was always a happy person, never a complaint, or a negative thing to say about anyone. Everyone who came in contact with her couldn't help but smile just by knowing her. She was always grateful for each new day no matter what it held. She always loved spending time with her sister Carol, & all of her nieces & nephews, & grandnieces & nephews.
Sylvia passed away & went home to join her Lord & Saviour on August 22, 2023. She was 80 years old. She leaves behind one son, Brian Keith Rawson of Philadelphia; a sister, Carol Brady of Chester Springs PA; as well as a five nieces & nephews, & over ten great-grandnieces & nephews.
A service will be held on Wednesday August 30th, at Colonial Manor United Methodist Church in West Deptford, NJ from 10AM to 11AM, & following will be internment at Eglington Cemetery at 12PM, family & friends are invited to attend.
