Obituary

Wilson Gilbert Bailey

October 31, 1930 - December 5, 2020

Wilson Gilbert Bailey 90, of Westville, NJ, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2020 surrounded by loved ones to the very end. He was born on October 31, 1930 to Mildred and Wilson Bailey.

Wilson was an Army veteran having served in the Korean War as a Military Police officer.  He could often be found sharing stories from these days, and would often joke how ironic it was that he was an MP since his fun-loving personality got him into trouble the most. After completing his military service, he worked at the shipyard in Philadelphia.  He then worked as a Delaware River Port Authority police officer for 29 years.  After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife and trips to the casino with the Coia gang. Later in life he picked a new hobby in bowling through which he made many great friendships.

Wilson was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grand-pop, proudly earning the title "Best GGP".   He lived for his family and never missed an opportunity to treat the grandkids to ice cream, attend a school event or cheer them on at their sports games. From being "Room Poppy" at school, to being the girls personal taxi, he soaked up every moment. Not many grandkids can brag that their Poppy could do back flips into the pool, but that's what he was- someone to brag about.  He was known for his sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.  It warms his family's hearts hearing stories of how he made everyone smile and touched so many lives.

Wilson was loving husband of 54 years to Carmela (nee Coia); loving father of Bill, Ken, Gina (Jim); brother to Walter; cherished grandfather of Rachel (Brian), Andrea (Bill), Brandon, and Krissi (Rich); and the best GGP to Jackson, Evan, Charlotte, and Will.  He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Wilson was always charitable and lovingly donated to many charities over the years, never one to shy away from helping someone in need.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Wilson's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, NJ Humane Society, Wounded Warrior Project, Best Friends - Save Them All, or a charity of the donor's choice.
